The voters’ right to cast a ballot was compromised and significantly damaged the political formation I represent. The People’s Party of Alicante denounces an alleged electoral offense before the Provincial Electoral Board, targeting the popular candidate in the Benidorm City Council, an issue linked to the Electoral Census and the Post Office. Tony Perez.
They made this known in a letter to the Alicante Election Board, requesting the Board to pursue corrective action by asking the Electoral Census Bureau and the Post Office to resolve the reported irregularities and forward the complaint to the prosecutor’s office, with the aim of initiating a timely investigation and holding those responsible to account.
Municipal elections in Benidorm: the eight least-placed mayoral results in twenty years
The document was signed by the PP’s electoral representative in the province and Benidorm councilor, José Ramón González de Zárate, and presented to the Provincial Election Board on 16 March.
The popular party notes that complaints and claims about people requesting votes by mail were learned from the envelope received from the Post Office, which was used to exercise the right to vote through this method. The candidacy document for the 2023 municipal elections by the Benidorm City Council People’s Party is included, along with documents from other political options. While they cannot measure how many voters are affected, they assert awareness of “numerous cases” and stress that it is not a single or isolated error.
Conversely, for the regional elections scheduled for the same day, they confirm that the ballot papers from all formations united on 28 May, including the People’s Party, are attached to the process.
From the PP’s side, both the Electoral Census Office and the Post Office stated in their complaints that LOREG’s 73.2 voters will be guided to the address listed by LOREG, starting from the thirty-fourth day after the election call and up to the sixth day before the vote, or, if the census cannot be located at that address, the ballot papers, the envelope containing the election materials, the certificate of approval referenced previously, and the address of the ballot box center where voting will occur. An explanatory sheet accompanies these documents.
The provincial representative of the People’s Party regrets that the Benidorm PP candidacy, which includes Toni Pérez as number 3, has become entangled in this issue, describing it as having “seriously harmed” their position. He notes that many citizens have felt threatened about voting due to the omission of their ballot papers.
Municipal elections in Benidorm: more voters for 28M, fewer foreigners and changes in three schools
“We call for an investigation of the facts and a clear assignment of responsibilities,” stated González de Zárate. He urged residents who requested a postal vote to verify the envelope they received: “People in Benidorm, go to headquarters to request it, but who’s out there?” the politician complains.
Consequently, they demand a new shipment to all citizens who requested mail-in ballots, ensuring that the ballot papers from all participating parties in the 28-M municipal and regional elections are properly included.
