Alicante province will receive thirty million euros to support the construction of social rented housing. The announcement came this Tuesday following the general assembly, where the Consell was awarded subsidies from the aid program designed to build a total of 1,101 social rental homes in energy-efficient buildings across the country. The Valencian Community, under the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan 2021-2026 and financed by the European Union through Next Generation EU funds, allocated a total of 50 million to this initiative. These subsidies reward the winners of a competition conducted by the Valencia Housing and Land Association EVha, which operates under the Second Vice Presidency and the Department of Social Services, Equality and Housing. The awards aim to develop housing within the scope of superficies on 17 parcels, with EVha retaining ownership in several municipalities within the Valencian Community.

three parties

The competition was divided into three segments. The first two segments focus on the province of Alicante. The initial batch received 14.5 million in subsidies and covers three parcels: the L’Alquería sector in Sant Joan d’Alacant, a site on Ausiàs March street in El Campello, and Rabasa II in Alicante. This constitutes phase 1 with three parcels. The second batch, also valued at 14.9 million, comprises four parcels on L’Alquería in Sant Joan d’Alacant and two on La Huerta street in San Vicente del Raspeig. The third segment corresponds to the Valencia state with 21 million in aid.

In related developments, the Consell renewed cooperation agreements with city councils in Alcoy and Elche to manage renovation and urban renewal actions in district areas and neighborhoods across both regions. The agreements also authorize the subsidy for 2023. In Alcoy, the plan includes rehabilitating 400 homes, addressing structural improvements, accessibility, adaptation of common elements, and the arrangement of houses across the Santa Rosa, Ensanche, and Centro Histórico neighborhoods. The commitment for 2023 amounts to 192,502 euros, all of which comes from the Ministry. In Elche, construction on the San Antón district will add four new buildings comprising 284 newly built homes, with the subsidy totaling 177,311 euros, of which 71,138 euros are provided by the Ministry and 106,173.31 euros by the Generalitat.

Public transport

Additionally, the Consell’s general assembly approved a decree-law establishing temporary discounts and tariff changes for public transport services under the Generalitat’s authority for six months in 2024. The measure includes rate reductions on temporary passes and multi-trip tickets for 50% of transportation services under the authority next year. The discount period runs for six months ending July 31, 2024. The Free Temporary Youth Pass for young people up to 30 has been extended through June 30, 2024. No action is required by users to benefit. The technical implementation affects TRAM d’Alacant as well as urban and intercity buses. The estimated cost to the Generalitat for these measures is around 18.4 million euros.
