The Ximo President civil platform presents itself as an independent citizen movement. It has stood behind Consell’s administration for eight years and made its debut in Vega Baja, the first region where it established a name after its Alicante presentation on February 25.
Historian and researcher Gerardo Muñoz, the person in charge, visited the Fernando de Loazes de Orihuela library on Wednesday, where the regional supporter group is also active. The Vega Baja team includes Javier Sánchez Puertas and a broader circle of members gathered after the Alicantí gathering. Among those involved are Maribel Peñalver, Enrique Riquelme, Rosario Soler, Rocío Pajares, Antonio Gutiérrez, Miguel Fayos, and others.
The initiative aligns with actions from regional authorities, highlighting investments through the Vega Renhace Plan. Puig’s flagship project concentrates on the Vega Baja, a region hard hit by the 2019 DANA floods, and aims to reverse years of neglect by bringing attention to a historically overlooked area.
The plan includes a significant funding package. Sanchez Puertas points to 200 million euros invested between 2019 and 2023, with the total reaching 400 million when state contributions are included. He also noted the acquisition of the Palace of the Marqués de Rafal in Orihuela, positioning it as the presidential seat outside the three Valencia Community capitals and reinforcing the historical role of Orihuela.
The Palace of the Marqués de Rafal in Orihuela is described as already serving as the Generalitat’s presidential seat. This development underscores the recognition of the president’s work and its perceived importance to the Vega Baja, which stands as one of the most visited areas in the region. The Botànic era’s calls for continuity beyond the third regional elections on May 28 feature prominently in the group’s messaging.
According to Muñoz, Vega Baja will host the platform’s event in Orihuela during the first week of May, featuring Puig. The gathering will focus on proposals for issues that concern the region, such as water management, agriculture, transport and connectivity, and residential tourism, among others.
