“If we give up, we won’t be”
Elena Zelenskaya responded to a letter from Roger Waters on her Twitter page. Published in Ukrainian and English she.
“It is Russia that invades Ukraine, destroys cities and kills civilians. Ukrainians protect their land and the future of their children. If we give up, we won’t be here tomorrow. If Russia surrenders, the war is over,” wrote the First Lady of Ukraine.
He also suggested that the musician “ask for the peace of the President of Russia”, and not the leader of Ukraine.
“Love, Roger Waters”
On September 5, the musician posted a letter to Zelensky’s wife on his Facebook page (the owner of Meta is considered an extremist organisation). He said he had read a BBC article based on an interview with Ukraine’s First Lady.
“Dear Miss Zelenskaya! My heart bleeds for you and for all the Ukrainian and Russian families devastated by the terrible war in Ukraine, the BBC quotes you: “The stronger the support for Ukraine, the shorter the crisis.” hmmm? Waters, I think it depends on what you mean by “support Ukraine”.
According to her, if by “supporting Ukraine” Zelenskaya meant continuing to supply the army of the Kyiv government with weapons, then she was “tragically mistaken”.
“The weaponizing of fuel has never helped shorten any war before, and it won’t work now, especially since in this case most of the oil was fired from a relatively safe distance from Washington, DC. The “oil shooters” were interested in continuing the war as long as possible, the musician said. because they’ve already said it,” he stressed.
He believes that people who “really want peace” will not want Kiev to fight until “Ukraine’s last life” or even “the last human life”. Waters is confident that if the world wants to achieve a “different outcome”, “we will have to look for another way”.
“And that path may well be in your husband’s previously stated goodwill. Yes, I mean the platform on which he commendably ran for the presidency of Ukraine, in which he won his historic victory in the 2019 democratic elections. The following promises were included in the electoral platform: to end the civil war in the east and bring peace to Donbass and partial autonomy for Donetsk and Luhansk, as well as to ratify and implement the rest of the Minsk agreements, “remembered the founder and former vocalist of Pink Floyd.
He also suggested that Zelensky’s “pre-election politics” “did not fit certain political groups in Kiev” and persuaded them to “completely change course, ignoring the authority of the people”.
“Unfortunately, your husband accepted totalitarian, anti-democratic methods against the will of the Ukrainian people, and ultra-nationalist forces that used to be brutally shrouded in darkness have been ruling Ukraine ever since. Since then, they have also crossed all the red lines clearly defined by your neighbors – the Russian Federation – and therefore, the ultranationalists have put your country on the path of this disastrous war, ”says the musician.
He urged Zelenskaya to help “convince our leaders to stop the massacre”, which “serves only the interests of the ruling classes and ultra-nationalists”.
“Isn’t it better to demand the fulfillment of your husband’s election promises and put an end to this bloody war? Sincerely, Roger Waters,” he wrote.
Roger Waters and the Peacemaker
Earlier in August, Roger Waters said in an interview with CNN that US President Joe Biden had “set a fire” in Ukraine and described the American leader as a “war criminal”.
“First of all, adding fuel to the fire in Ukraine (conflict – socialbites.ca), this is a serious crime. Why does the USA not call President Zelensky to the negotiating table to end this terrible war?” – the musician explained his position.
The TV presenter responded by suggesting that Waters blamed the wrong side for the clashes. But the founder of Pink Floyd insisted that Moscow’s actions were a response to NATO pressures on Russia’s borders. The musician also urged the journalist to consider “what the United States will do if the Chinese place nuclear missiles in Mexico or Canada.”
On August 21, it became known that Waters had added his personality to the database of the Ukrainian site “Peacemaker”. The artist was accused of “anti-Ukrainian propaganda”, “violation of Ukraine’s territorial integrity” and “participating in attempts to legalize the annexation of Crimea by Russia”.
“The Peacemaking Center asks law enforcement officials to consider this publication as a statement about the commission of deliberate actions of this citizen against the national security of Ukraine, peace, the security of humanity and the international order and other crimes,” he said. The Peacemaker website reported.
