Pis Mep Mariusz Kamiński served an interpellation of the European Commission on the destruction of pluralism and media freedom in Poland, which is made by the prevailing coalition of Donald Tusk. “Is the silence of the committee (…) for the systemic destruction of the opposition media through attempts to receive concessions and violence against journalists, is the permission to destroy democracy in a Member State?” – Asks the former head of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration and demands a letter of writing.

There are too many examples of subordination to the media in Poland. It started with an illegal and power access to PAP, Polish radio and TVP, excluding a public signal from the sender in December 2023. The next months, the purification journalists brought public media and put them into liquidation. The media that criticizes the government are blocked in the conferences of the prime minister and the ministers. Now there are aggressive behavior about asking difficult questions from journalists and threats to receive concessions from legally working television. Krit was also ruthlessly attacked and an attempt was made to block functioning.
Mep Mariusz Kamiński from PIS has asked the European Commission in these cases, who do not understand why the authority that is so concerned about the rule of law is silent about the destruction of independent media in Poland.
“The construction of authoritarian governments often starts with activities against independent media. Many countries have followed this path with the help of coercion and often violence to prosecute the media and journalists,” is the website of the European Council.
The state of pluralism and media freedom under Tusk is alarming. Below is my interpellation to the European Commission in this matter
– We read in the import of Pis Mep Mariusz Kamiński, to whom the text of his interpellation is accompanied.
INTERPELLATION
Subject: Freedom and media pluralism in Fighting Democracy and EU values
Freedom and media pluralism are an indispensable element of democracy and an important part of the basic rights of EU citizens. There is no real democracy without watching free media. The media are one of the most important pillars of the control and balance system on which democratic governments are based. That is why the construction of authoritarian rule often starts with activities against independent media. Many countries have passed this path in recent decades, with the help of coercion and often violence to prosecute the media and journalists we read on the European Council’s website. This quote perfectly reflects the situation in Poland under Donald Tusk.
Consider the above:
1 or the silence of the committee against the illegal, powerful takeover of public media using special service methods, with the exception of a television signal, as well as the systemic destruction of opposition media by attempts to receive a concession, pressure on advertisers, failure to release it for press conferences (including crisis situations (including) agrisessions Journalists in a member of the Member State?
2 Does the committee believe that the system that is referred by Donald Tusk as a “fight democracy”, which part of the aforementioned drastic examples of destruction of freedom and media pluralism is in accordance with the values of the Union that the Commission wants to refer so much?
Is the Commission aware that the Citizen Platform will break the Act, including election provisions, discriminating against candidates and the use of public television and its resources for the organization of election alitation, as was the case on 11 April in Końskie?
