Presidency in the EU council

The head of Polish diplomacy, who answered the questions of parliamentarians, mainly from PIS, referred to, among other things, the performance of Poland during the presidency in the Council of the European Union. He pointed out, among other things, that safety became the subject of the discussion about three meetings of the European Council. He added that the conclusions adopted during them were in line with the Polish story about deepening the cooperation between defense and increasing the responsibility of Europe for their safety.

The European Commission has announced flagship defense initiatives, “Return Europe”, “Readiness 2030” plan and a white book on European defense. You cannot agree with them, you can think that the EU should not deal with defense. We then have a different opinion, but the fact is that he is dealing

Sikorski emphasized that there will be “real” money for the defense industry in the European Union and “This is also our business.” He announced that there is already a provisional decision to finance the East Shield of European funds and a provisional agreement on a loan from the European Investment Bank for the amount of EUR 1 billion.

The East Shield was introduced in the white book of the EC as an element of critical skills. On the third birthday of Russian aggression for Ukraine, the sixteenth package of sanctions against Russia was adopted. Shadow fleet

The politician also spoke while answering the questions, including recovery activities in connection with the Russian “shadow fleet” in the Baltic Sea. It is about tankers that wear Russian oil under foreign flags that bypass EU sanctions.

Sikorski pointed out that Poland, together with the Baltic partners, suggested covering the captains and crews of the “Shadow Fleet” ships. He announced that the first personal sanctions were imposed, causing these captains and crews to be prevented from wrapping up to the ports of the European Union.

And this means that they are more difficult to make. It is, it seems to me a rather convincing form of sanctions

He added that a real solution would be to liquidate the flag, for example in the Caribbean, for which you – without paying real insurance – can use ships that do not meet the standards, eg ecological. He noted that if there was oil leak of these tankers, their insurance policies would not be possible to collect a fee.

Repatriation

Sikorski was also asked about repatriation procedures.

I have the impression that after 35 years of free Poland the potential of repatriation ends. The one who wanted to come back came back, right? Now we have to unblock other ways to obtain Polish citizenship or to settle in Poland and to participate in the success of Poland

He recalled that he appealed to his countrymen and their descendants in the event of an exposure before returning to the country.
