The Polish government has made efforts to ensure that the measures taken in response to the Oder crisis are fully transparent. Work on determining the causes is ongoing and the results of the study are available to the public, Anna Moskwa, Climate and Environment Minister, said in a letter to German ministers.
Lemke: ‘There will be an ecological catastrophe’
The Ministry of Climate and Environment informed Wednesday evening about the letter that Minister Anna Moskwa addressed to the German Minister of the Environment Steffi Lemke and the Minister of Agriculture and Food Policy of Germany Cem Özdemir. The head of the Ministry of Culture and Heritage referred to the statement by Prof. Justyna Wolinska of the Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB).
As indicated in the letter, Prof. Wolinska commented on the investigation conducted by the IGB as part of the search for the cause of the Odra poisoning. At the same time, she would refer to the publication of the report, also in Polish, to justify the fact that the researchers are “aware that part of society and NGOs do not trust the information of the state media” in Poland – stated in the message signed by the Moscow minister.
Polish Government Efforts
The head of the climate ministry expressed surprise and bewilderment at these words, given the efforts and efforts of the Polish government to respond as transparently as possible to the crisis on the Odra River.
The Polish Chief Inspectorate for Environmental Protection regularly carries out water samples at various research stations on the Oder and the results are public. State and non-governmental institutions are constantly working to identify the source of this crisis
– Minister Moscow emphasized
Speaking to Germany’s environment and agriculture ministers, the head of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage expressed his “disappointment that such a comment was made by a representative of a German government-funded research institute”. She pointed out that “in her opinion the IGB (…) is subject to the supervision of at least one of the ministries” headed by Lemke and Özdemir.
Therefore, I would like an explanation as to whether the said statement by Prof. Wolinska should be treated as the official position of the German government
– wrote Anna Moskwa.
