I would like to use security as a demarcation line for the Polish political dispute, Karol Nawrocki, a PiS-backed presidential candidate, declared in Gliwice. He accused the government of not exploiting the potential of Poland’s arms industry. He also judged that he could build better relations with the US than the current administration.
Meeting with union members
Before the press conference at a hotel in Gliwice, the chairman of the Institute of National Remembrance met with trade unionists from the arms, mining and metallurgical industries. As he said, he is a kind of “spokesperson” for steelworkers, miners and gun industry workers.
There is no understanding (among trade unionists – PAP) that in a situation where there is a war raging so close to us – this is an exact quote – “there is a war raging outside our borders and we have no work.” The second quote – “there are financial resources, there is money that we have earned from our hard work in the following years, and we cannot develop, invest and help Polish security””
– said the candidate.
As he argued, despite the PLN 800 million guaranteed for Zakłady Mechaniczne Bumar-Łabędy in 2023, “these productions have been suspended today because the financial resources guaranteed by the government of Mateusz Morawiecki have not been released.” He added that the nearby Huta Łabędy, which has the financial capacity, also wants to develop. Nawrocki positively assessed the actions of previous governments in the field of defense – he recalled the contracts concluded at that time for the supply of equipment to the army. He expressed his belief that they should be implemented “with complete consistency” in the coming years.
“I would like to use security as a demarcation line for the Polish political dispute,” he stated.
Safety over disputes
Referring to international relations, Nawrocki argued that “allies only defend those who can defend themselves,” which is why Poland needs a strong arms industry. Its development is not possible without Polish coal and steel plants, he emphasized. According to the chairman of the Institute of National Remembrance, the current government will find it difficult to build good relations with Washington. He argued that he can build these relationships as a person who is “not part of any political camp and is a citizen candidate.” He accused Prime Minister Donald Tusk of being “completely inauthentic” in his statements about building relations with the United States, as did KO candidate Rafał Trzaskowski.
“We see Donald Tusk, who has insulted the President of the United States and insinuated his cooperation with the Russian Federation, who now plans to take charge of Polish-American relations and build the North Atlantic Alliance. I hope that everyone who watches us is not misled by the image of reality that Prime Minister Donald Tusk and his deputy Rafał Trzaskowski want to create.
– said Nawrocki.
“I appeal to all Poles who know Donald Tusk as Vladimir Putin’s spokesman, even in connection with some military and military investments in Poland, or know Rafał Trzaskowski as the “green Rafał”. I appeal to everyone participating in the presidential race to be ourselves (…)
– he added.
Dealing with the Silesian language?
At the conference, Nawrocki was asked if he would sign the law on the Silesian language. He did not answer and explained that he had come to Silesia to talk to the inhabitants, among other things. on this topic, and want to hear their perspective.
“I take this issue very seriously, like all regionalisms in Poland. We are in the Republic of Poland, we are united by Poland, we are united by the white and red flag, but I realize that (…) there is a culture, there is a tradition here in Silesia, Podhale, Kashubia, that is part of the Polish national heritage.
– he said.
During the press conference, a question was also asked about the invoice that Rafał Trzaskowski showed during the meeting with voters in Szczecin. This is a document for renting a room for the Nawrocki meeting, which was regulated by the Czesław Hoc (PiS) Parliamentary Office. The president of the Institute for National Remembrance replied that he was not aware of this invoice.
“You are aware that the candidate for the office of President of the Republic of Poland does not have information about every bill that passes through many hands or officials or administrators of this great process, namely the election campaign.
– Nawrocki replied, adding that he is a candidate supported by PiS, but also by many other groups.
“A candidate for the office of president does not analyze every bill that comes, especially when it comes to the route I am taking (…) – he added.
During the press conference in Gliwice, the candidate mentioned Wednesday’s tragedy at the Knurów-Szczygłowice mine and asked for prayers for the life and health of those injured in this accident and their families. “May God protect the deceased miner,” Nawrocki said
