“President Andrzej Duda will speak at the forum in Davos, among other things: about support for Ukraine and promoting Poland as an attractive investment country,” said Minister Mieszko Pawlak. He said meetings are planned between the head of state and political leaders and business representatives.
55/ The World Economic Forum in Davos (WEF) will start tomorrow under the slogan “Cooperation in a smart era”. The debate will focus on the challenges to democracy and the opportunities and risks associated with the explosion of new, intelligent technologies.
Andrzej Duda is going there tomorrow. His stay in Davos lasts until January 24.
This year, in addition to President Duda and the head of Polish diplomacy Radosław Sikorski, the following people are expected: the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, the head of NATO Mark Rutte, the head of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola, the president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Argentina Javier Milei, the Vice Prime Minister of China Ding Xuexiang and the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. There will also be other leaders from around the world, including from the countries of the Persian Gulf and representatives of the new Syrian authorities. Donald Trump, who is currently starting his presidency in the US, will appear remotely.
Promotion of Poland
Mieszko Pawlak emphasized that Andrzej Duda is participating in the forum in Davos for the seventh time, and also for the last time as President of the Republic of Poland.
As every year, it will be an opportunity for numerous meetings and conversations from the world of politics, economics and media, to discuss the most current regional and global challenges, as well as a great opportunity to promote Poland. An important context here is that, on the one hand, we have the Polish Presidency of the EU Council from January 1, and on the other hand, President Duda will host the Three Seas Initiative summit in April, which will also be accompanied by a business conference. forum
– said the presidential minister.
The President will certainly want to talk about the phenomena arising from this initiative, especially as more and more political and economic partners have shown interest in this summit in recent weeks. During these talks, Poland and the entire Three Seas region will be promoted by the President as an attractive region from the point of view of investment and development – as the part of Europe that is currently developing most rapidly.
– added the minister.
Inauguration of the Ukrainian House
On January 21, the president will participate in the inauguration of the Ukrainian House. The exhibition “Your country first, win with us” will be held there, with works by Ukrainian and international artists. The discussion program will focus on the geopolitical – including global – implications of the war in Ukraine.
Mieszko Pawlak noted that the Ukrainian House has been attracting leaders for years. He recalled that last year during a similar event, a bilateral meeting took place between President Duda and Volodymyr Zelensky. This year – as the presidential minister noted – there are many indications that the Ukrainian leader will not attend the inauguration.
When asked about a possible meeting of Presidents Duda and Zelenskiy in Davos, Pawlak said it “depends on the agendas of both presidents.”
Because on January 15 they had a long talk in the Belweder Palace and the subject of meeting in Davos also came up – but quite spontaneously. We have had quite long talks between both leaders, and soon we can expect President Zelensky’s visit to Poland again.
– he added.
He noted that he could not provide further details at this time.
Informal leadership consultation
He said the President will participate in an informal meeting of world business leaders (IGWEL) on January 22, also with the participation of world political leaders, including: UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
And it will be a conversation about the future of international cooperation in the global dimension and how we can avoid a new reality in which countries do not want to cooperate with each other. In this context, the President will speak on the issue of UN reform, but also on the importance of transatlantic relations, the strengthening of which is one of the priorities of the Presidency, adopted at the initiative of President Duda two years ago under the previous government. government.
– he emphasized.
On January 23, President Duda, together with NATO Secretary General Marek Rutte and the Presidents of Finland, Alexander Stubb and Latvia, Edgars Rinkeviczs, will participate in the so-called Ukrainian Breakfast, i.e. a panel that brings together leaders. Also present will be the Prime Ministers of Croatia and Belgium.
Support for Ukraine
The minister recalled that the format of the meeting assumes that questions will be asked to the panelists, and that the entire discussion will cover both support for Ukraine and “the emerging new world order and the role that the fight against Ukraine at this crucial moment is playing.”
Mieszko Pawlak noted that the President has also planned many other formal and informal meetings in Davos in various formats with political leaders, representatives of global business and the media.
The minister emphasized that the president himself would inform about these meetings.
When asked about possible meetings with representatives of the new US administration, Mieszko Pawlak noted that the situation was unusual due to the simultaneous inauguration of Donald Trump’s presidency in the US.
There will be no Polish House
The presidential minister announced that neither the Polish House nor the Three Seas House will be active during this year’s forum. He called it a “sad thing.”
This year, more eyes are on Poland – we have the presidency and summit of the Three Seas Initiative, and at the same time, our country’s promotion scale in Davos this year will be significantly smaller than in previous years
– he said.
He recalled that the Three Seas House operated in Davos last year.
Mieszko Pawlak pointed out that with the financial support of Orlen, a Polish business hub will be organized in Davos.
