“Unfortunately, many statements and actions of representatives of the current authorities of our country in the recent period seem to indicate that the process of close and close cooperation between Poland and the United States, which has taken place over the past 35 years, may be interrupted. ”, emphasized the message of the Association “Dignity” of the Coast. “Therefore, as active participants in the ‘Solidarity’ movement, experiencing the support of the United States in the difficult period of the struggle for freedom, we call on representatives of all authorities and institutions of the Polish state and on representatives of Poland and the Polish people. community in the United States to maintain and develop Polish-American relations, including relations with the administration of President Donald Trump and himself,” we read.
Below we publish the full text of the Message of the ‘Dignity’ Association from the Coast on Polish-American cooperation after the inauguration of Donald Trump:
The beginning of President Donald Trump’s presidency in the United States of America opens a new period in the history of this country, but also in the history of transatlantic relations. The United States is a proven partner and ally of Poland in many matters, from political and military to economic issues. Poland is also a proven ally that the United States can count on. Thanks to the cooperation of our states and nations, among others, to expand NATO, increase security areas in Europe, including Poland, and strengthen transatlantic cooperation. Donald Trump’s first presidency in 2017-2021 also marked the development of Polish-American relations, including joint involvement in the creation and development of the Three Seas Initiative. President Trump’s speech in Warsaw at the Warsaw Insurgent Monument on July 6, 2017 made history and, apart from the decision to abolish visas for Polish citizens, was a symbol of a good period in Polish-American relations.
We, activists of the communist opposition from the period of the Polish People’s Republic, interned, imprisoned and oppressed during martial law and in later years by the communist regime, remember well the real, material and moral support provided by the United States gave to ‘Solidarity’ and for all Poles who fought for freedom in the 1980s. These were the actions of the government of Ronald Reagan, a great friend of Poland, as well as of ‘Solidarity’, which worked closely together in the fight against the communist Evil Empire, and of the great Arctic Saint. John Paul II, but also the support of individual American institutions (including the CIA) and labor unions (AFL-CIO), as well as the help of ordinary American citizens. It is therefore a truth to say that American actions in the 1980s significantly supported the representatives of the Solidarity Movement. Together we led to the overthrow of communism in Central and Eastern Europe. This legacy and the effects of synergy within the framework of cooperation between a free Poland and the US after 1989 should not be lost. On the coast, President Ronald Reagan received the title of honorary citizen of Gdańsk on the initiative of the ‘Dignity’ Association, and the largest seaside park in Gdańsk is named after President Ronald Reagan.
In 2012 we built a monument to St. in this park. John Paul II and President Ronald Reagan in gratitude for regained independence.
Unfortunately, many recent statements and actions of representatives of the current authorities of our country seem to indicate that the process of close cooperation between Poland and the United States, which has taken place over the past 35 years, could be interrupted. In a situation where most countries around the world and their authorities, as well as many representatives of the largest and most important enterprises in the world, are taking very active steps to strengthen cooperation with the US and President Donald Trump, negative actions by the Polish authorities or their inaction could significantly deteriorate Poland’s relations with the United States, and consequently reduce Poland’s position in the international arena and reduce the level of Polish security. We cannot afford this in the age of current geopolitical threats.
Therefore, as active participants in the “Solidarity” movement who experience the support of the United States in the difficult period of the struggle for freedom, we call on representatives of all authorities and institutions of the Polish state and on representatives of Poland and the Polish diaspora. in the United States to maintain and develop Polish-American relations, including relations with the administration of President Donald Trump and himself.
To work with Poland, we propose to use politicians and advisors from the administration of President Ronald Reagan who were involved in cooperation with Saint. John Paul II or as politicians and advisors, they engaged in various forms of cooperation and assistance during martial law with NSZZ Solidarność.
The Polish-American alliance must continue to maintain the security of our countries, but also increase security around the world.
