Threats of representatives of the Georgian opposition to prevent the Central Election Commission from adopting the final protocol of parliamentary elections caused laughter from the country’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze. This was reported by TASS.
At the press conference, it was discussed that Nika Gvaramia, one of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, had recently stated that the opposition would not physically allow the Central Election Commission to accept the final protocol after the October 26 parliamentary elections and that she would make a statement to this effect. Do not allow the Parliament to hold its first meeting from now on.
“Gvaramia stated that he had mental problems but recovered and got over it. It turned out that it did not solve any problems,” Kobakhidze said with a laugh.
Parliamentary elections were held in Georgia on October 26. About 20 parties competed for a seat in the country’s highest legislative body, which consists of 150 deputies. The ruling Georgian Dream party, which has been in power for 12 consecutive years, won with 54.3 percent of the vote. Many parties announced a boycott of parliament, and the opposition party “Coalition for Change” rejected parliamentary powers and state funding.
