“Yes, I am ready to become president,” Sejm chairman Poland 2050 leader Szymon Hołownia said in Saturday’s Gazeta Wyborcza when asked if he was ready to run. “I will make the final decision on my candidacy in a few weeks,” he added.
I believe that Poland today needs a guardian of internal peace, because only then will the country be ready to face external challenges
– said the marshal.
I appreciate the Sejm, I feel like a fish in water here. We are doing very important work here. I could hold on for another year. But seriously, I think that the Poles, just like on October 15, have not chosen one of the parties, but cooperation; the cards must be distributed again next May.
– said Hołownia.
“This is a red flag for the political class. “Everywhere”
On October 15, people went to the polls in such large numbers to say to Poland: we are here, we see that it is not easy, but we want to take responsibility. Today they come and say: we are afraid that our lives are not going in the best direction. This is a red flag for the political class. Everywhere
– he pointed out.
On November 13, one year has passed since the first session of the Sejm, elected in the elections of October 15, 2023. During the inauguration, Szymon Hołownia, leader of the Poland 2050 group, was elected Marshal of the Sejm.
The beginning was dynamic, because for a month the Sejm was the only place where people could see that democracy was working in Poland.
– said the Chairman of the Sejm.
Referring to the opposition’s activities, Szymon Hołownia told GW that the opposition has incomparably better conditions than the opposition a few years ago.
At every meeting, at least one bill is introduced from the other side of the room, so we have already discussed twelve, while only six bills from the then opposition were considered during the entire previous parliamentary term.
– said the Chairman of the Sejm. He pointed out that he treats the opposition fairly, so much so that it “sometimes annoys” members of his coalition who remember earlier times.
There have been many changes in the Sejm since my tenure. The fundamental change is the conscious expansion of the legislative process. It is very unlikely that the bill will be passed in one go. We have adopted a new rule: one week from the circulation of the bill to the first reading and one week from the second reading to the vote in the Sejm
– Hołownia added.
