Anna Adamiak, spokeswoman for the neo-national prosecutor’s office, said discussions were underway with the Dominican side on determining the procedure for Paweł Szopa’s transfer to Poland. Two procedures are possible: extradition or deportation.
Paweł Szopa, a businessman and creator of the Red is Bad brand, was arrested in the Dominican Republic on October 25. Neo-PK spokeswoman Anna Adamiak announced that day that Szopa’s transfer to Poland was possible under extradition or deportation proceedings.
During the briefing, she explained that prosecutors from the Silesia branch – the unit leading the proceedings – are in constant contact with the Dominican side through the consul of the Polish embassy in Panama.
The consul is taking action to determine the procedure for Mr Paweł S.’s transfer to Poland
– she added.
We are of course waiting for the position of the Dominican side, because it is the authorities of this country that will determine the form of cooperation regarding the transfer of Mr. Paweł S.
she said.
Adamiak explained that there are two ways to bring a suspect to Poland: extradition and deportation. She emphasized that the second is “much more efficient,” takes less time and could take “even several days.” Extradition, in turn, is a multi-stage procedure, including judicial proceedings.
The spokeswoman for the neo-national prosecutor’s office emphasized that Poland has not signed an extradition agreement with the Dominican Republic.
Since October 10, Szopa has been wanted with a red notice from Interpol. An arrest warrant and a European arrest warrant were previously issued against him.
The investigation into alleged irregularities at RARS started on December 1, 2023. It is currently being carried out by the Silesian Branch of the Organized Crime and Corruption Department of the National Prosecution Service in Katowice.
