Former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki called on Prime Minister Donald Tusk to negotiate provisions banning the forced movement of migrants in the conclusions of the EU summit taking place in Brussels. According to him, the proposal to temporarily suspend the right to asylum is a “smokescreen”.
Mateusz Morawiecki recalled during a press conference in Brussels that the conclusions of the 2018 and 2019 EU summits – that is, during the period when he was Prime Minister – contained provisions that the EU would not impose forced relocation of migrants to Member States. The former head of government argued that unanimity is needed on this issue.
Migration Pact – this is the pact included in the June 2018 and 2019 conclusions. It is very decisive and unambiguous. We subsequently established that there was no forced movement of migrants to Member States. Since December 13, we have clearly seen that the ruling coalition has abandoned this decision. Today’s legal situation is similar to that of 2017 and 2018, when we strongly vetoed forced relocations.
– he said and added:
The coalition currently governing Poland has abandoned this approach. I expect the current government to deal with this fairly. I expect there will be a veto against forced relocation. I expect very strict provisions, which I included in the 2018 conclusions. I encourage Mr Tusk and everyone else to simply include in the conclusion exactly the same paragraph banning forced removals
– said the former Prime Minister.
Morawiecki was asked at the conference about Tusk’s proposal to temporarily suspend the right of asylum.
Let’s not confuse concepts. We know very well that this is another smokescreen. This is what the current government is good at: putting aside substitute subjects, side issues. Today, asylum procedures are not the problem; today the problem forces Poles to forced relocations
– he replied.
He added that “first of all, external subsidies must be protected.”
As long as we effectively protect the external borders, we will not be threatened by the artificial, illegal immigration that Lukashenko and Putin are preparing for us. Currently, those in power not only voted against the dam on the border with Belarus, not only did they not believe that we would build this border within six months, but they even mockingly declared – and this was through the mouth of the current Prime Minister – that this dam would not have been built within three years. This barrier was created and today, thanks to my government’s decision, Poland is protected from illegal migration from the east.
– argued Morawiecki.
He emphasized that the maritime border is the easiest to monitor.
That is why Britain (in its history – PAP) was so lucky, unlike us. Today, the south of Europe experiences this, unfortunately, schizophrenic approach. On the one hand, maritime borders are the easiest to protect, and on the other hand, these countries are forced to accept tens of thousands of illegal migrants as a result of the leftist agenda.
– he announced.
European Council Summit
Two days before the European Council summit, the Polish government adopted the migration strategy for 2025-2030, which, among other things, assumes that in the event of a threat of destabilization of the country due to the influx of immigrants, it should be possible to temporarily and territorially suspend the right to accept asylum applications.
An announcement about this was made earlier, during the KO convention on October 12. This led to reactions at home and abroad. Tusk then announced that he would “demand recognition in Europe” for his decision.
Before the EU summit, Tusk spoke about migration.
I just had meetings with all the key players. What I wanted to achieve in this matter, I achieved – first of all, understanding
— Tusk said in a conversation with journalists before the start of the EU summit.
This is not about suspending the right to asylum, but about the temporary, territorial suspension of accepting applications when the border is crossed illegally and forcibly, that is, at the Belarusian border. Everyone here understands that
– he explained.

According to the Polish Prime Minister, no one in the EU has “a problem” with recognizing Poland’s right to such a temporary suspension.
Everyone also understands how specific the situation is when hostile regimes are involved in human trafficking. I have to say that things between you and me were easier than I expected
– he announced.
