Donald Tusk’s bad relations with the Beavers and the generous support of the Myrchs’ home state budget with public money are two issues that are very dangerous for the current government. They could do her more harm than breaking the law or her inept behavior during a flood.

Most of the population does not have the time or inclination to systematically follow political events. Many people find politics disgusting, so they ignore most news related to it. Only around the elections do they open their eyes and ears. It seems obvious, but knowledge about it does not fully reach those who are actively involved in politics. That is, for those who implement it – both in power and in opposition. Also for those who describe and comment on it: the media world. In recent years, this political universe has expanded considerably thanks to the Internet. Social media has activated the activity of hundreds of thousands of people. But it is still a minority compared to millions of citizens who, although they vote, do not want to think about politics on a daily basis.

The first – politicians, media, active internet users – are called bubbles. That is, something that functions separately from the mass of millions, although passively on a daily basis, but in the election finals decides who will govern and who will lose power. The world outside the bubble does not get excited about what active participants and observers of politics get excited about. Political news reaches the world outside the bubble with delay and often in a highly transformed form. This means that the perpetrators of scandals will not be immediately punished, which could mean a significant drop in the polls.

Tusk realized his mistake too late

However, from time to time there are exceptions to the above rule. This is what happened to the beavers threatened by Donald Tusk. True, he quickly realized his mistake and tried to correct it. But it was too late. The world outside the bubble heard the announcement of the murder of cute furries, but the news did not reach there that Tusk had given up his bloody plans. In the world outside the bubble, memes and jokes about Tusk’s war with the beavers began to circulate and reproduce.

The second bad news for the government is that something similar has happened with reports about the financial ingenuity – let’s put it euphemistically – of the parliamentary couple Kinga Gajewska and Arkadiusz Myrcha. The world outside the bubble has already noticed this and responded as it did with the Beavers. The Myrch have only themselves to blame. And not even because they came across as complete hypocrites, because for years they condemned the right wing for their alleged greed and theft. Their duplicity was noticed more by the bubble than by the world outside. There was a story about the greed and cunning of the people who stepped into the trough. For a long time, the Myrchs enjoyed taking on the roles of celebrities. A young, good-looking couple with three small children eagerly revealed their private life. They sought popularity through tabloids and portals, not coincidentally called gossip websites. They stepped out of the political bubble and now the world that did not follow current events learned about their privileged lives. No explanation or statement of support will help them anymore. An ordinary person has no chance of receiving the bonuses that the Myrchas take advantage of. This issue will haunt them for the rest of their political lives.

Radio DJs are already making jokes about Myrches. The power of this story is such that even pop culture cannot ignore it. The general rule in Polish pop culture is to mock the right wing, and jokes about established politicians should be rare and subtle. Anyway, the Myrch (and beaver) case is so spectacular that it’s hard to pretend to the public that it didn’t happen. Of course, it is the sacred duty of Polish comedians to repeat worn-out jokes about Jarosław Kaczyński a thousand times. But the question of the Mirken and the Beavers cannot be pushed aside too quickly, so some jokes will have to be repeated here too. Media coverage of Tusk’s government will return soon, but this one moment of suspension will cause damage. Difficult to repair. And hard to forget.
