General Wiesław Kukuła’s statement caused a number of negative opinions. In the meantime, we should not close our eyes to reality. Do generals Leon Komornicki and Mirosław Różański not see Vladimir Putin’s policies? And if they do, do they think this policy will allow them to plan peaceful cooperation with Russia?
The truth is that war is not only possible, but already being waged by Putin. In such a situation, we, as a country bordering Russia, have to draw conclusions because, as we know, we are not where, for example, Portugal or Canada are. So we must take into account that the threat from Russia is very real. Therefore, the military must be prepared for defensive operations and society must become comfortable with the idea that defending the country is not just an obligation contained in the Constitution. In our situation, this means that every citizen must take into account in his biography the need to fight in defense of the homeland. This is what we need to talk openly with our fellow countrymen. Silence on this subject will not lead to anything good. This only deceives the citizens by promoting the illusions of eternal peace in Europe.
The truth about threats
Telling the truth about threats is not about threatening war, but about drawing conclusions from Russia’s policy towards Europe. I regret that there are politicians and generals in Poland who ignore Russian expansion and Russian armament. This proves that part of our ‘elite’ does not understand these threats or consciously ignores them. Promoting naive pacifism in the current situation is not only a lack of concern for the fate of the homeland, but also an attitude of moral rot.
Therefore, I fully understand and support the words of the Chief of the General Staff, General Wiesław Kukuła, spoken at the Army Academy.
