President Andrzej Duda arrived in New York on Saturday evening local time, where he will take part in the general debate of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly. The message of the Polish president’s speech will be “peace through law.”
The president is accompanied by first lady Agata Kornhauser-Duda. The visit to the United States lasts until Wednesday.
A visit to the American Częstochowa
IN Sunday afternoon The presidential couple will visit the National Shrine of Our Lady of Częstochowa in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, where they will participate in the Mass and then in the unveiling ceremony of the Solidarity Monument. The Pauline shrine – called American Częstochowa – is an important place for the Polish community, where a copy of the painting of Jasna Góra is located.
Former US President Donald Trump was initially set to attend the same ceremony, his staff told PAP on Wednesday, but a day later they announced that these plans were no longer valid.
Sessions of the Atlantic Council
IN Monday The Polish President will, among other things, participate in the plenary session of the “Summit for the Future”, as well as in the “Round Table of Three Seas Leaders”, organized by the Atlantic Council.
General debate at the UN
The main item on the agenda – on Tuesday evening – will be the President’s address to the general debate of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.
Before leaving, the President said that this would be his tenth and farewell session of the UN General Assembly. He recalled that his first speech a decade ago focused on the message of “peace through law.”
We have said that we must strive for a world governed by law, established by law and not by the law of force. And this message is still valid and I will also talk about it at this UN meeting
– said Andrzej Duda. In this context, he recalled Russian aggression against Ukraine and the conflict in the Middle East.
Meetings
IN Wednesday Andrzej Duda will meet with the presidents of the Baltic states and will also take part in the UN Security Council open debate “Leadership for Peace”.
During the visit to New York, bilateral meetings are planned: with the President of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Bećirovic, UN Secretary General António Guterres, Secretary General of the Council of Europe Alain Berset, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, President of the World Jewish Congress Ronald S. Lauder, and President of the Democratic Republic of Congo Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo.
A conversation with Biden?
At the end of their visit to the US, the Polish presidential couple will attend a reception hosted by US President Joe Biden at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Andrzej Duda expressed the hope that he would be able to talk to Joe Biden “at least briefly” during the reception.
