The Warsaw court has issued a European arrest warrant against the creator of the Red is Bad brand, Paweł Szopa, the press service reports.
We would like to inform you that on September 6, 2024 the Warsaw District Court, pursuant to Art. 607a of the Code of Criminal Procedure, issued a European Arrest Warrant against Paweł Szopa
— This announcement was posted on the court’s website.
On August 22, the Neo-National Prosecutor’s Office announced that in the investigation into irregularities at RARS, it had decided to file charges against two more people: the former head of the Agency, Michał Kuczmierowski, and Paweł Szopa. The charges concern alleged participation in an organized criminal group and breach of obligations and exceeding powers to obtain financial benefits. At the request of the prosecutor, the Katowice-Wschód District Court agreed to arrest Kuczmierowski, allowing him to be searched with an arrest warrant and a European Arrest Warrant to be issued against him. On Monday afternoon, the prosecutor’s office announced that Kuczmierowski had been arrested in London.
The court of first instance did not accept the request for detention against Paweł Szopa, because it found that the fear of fraud in his case was not great enough to require temporary detention, especially since the suspect had filed a request for safe conduct against him. The prosecutor appealed this decision and the court accepted it.
On Monday, the Katowice District Court accepted the prosecutor’s complaint and ordered the businessman’s arrest for three months. The prosecutor issued a decision to search for Paweł Szopa with an arrest warrant
– Przemysław Nowak, spokesman for the neo-national prosecutor’s office, told PAP at the time.
RARS research
The investigation into irregularities at RARS was launched on December 1, 2023 and is currently being conducted by the Silesian branch of the Organized Crime and Corruption Department of the PK in Katowice. It concerns, among other things: alleged excess of authority and failure to fulfill duties by RARS employees in organizing and processing the purchase of goods, thereby acting to the detriment of the public interest from February 23, 2021 to November 27, 2023 in Warsaw in order to obtain a financial benefit.
