Award for Tusk
Prime Minister Donald Tusk will receive the European Journalism Award, which has been awarded by the M100 Sanssouci Colloquium organization since 2005, in Potsdam on September 12, dpa news agency reports. The award will also be presented to Kosovo President Vjosia Osmani-Sadriu.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is expected to attend the ceremony.
The winners of the M100 Sanssouci Colloquium Prize are selected by the organization’s advisory board, which includes journalists and politicians. The chairman of the board is Potsdam Mayor Mike Schubert.
The mayor explained that the council had decided to award the distinction to Tusk for his “tireless struggle against autocracy.” It will be presented at Sanssouci Palace, an emblematic monument of the capital of Brandenburg.
The prize has previously been received by, among others: Russian oppositionist Alexei Navalny, who died in a labor camp in February, and Kiev mayor and former boxer Vitali Klitschko.
As explained by the Potsdam-based organization, the prize recognizes European journalists for the politician’s work to defend and preserve democracy, freedom of expression and the media.
