Minister of Education Barbara Nowacka does not give up the fight against the Church and attacks religious education in schools! At the same time, she assured that she would help lay catechists with retraining.
Barbara Nowacka raised the issue of reducing religious education classes in schools to 1 hour from September at the Poland of the Future Campus in Olsztyn’s Kortowo.
You guys are aliens because you don’t ask me, and I thought that would be the first question
– said the Minister of Education. So the host asked her: “What will it be like with religious education?”
Education is provided by the Ministry of Education, and through this ministry by the Polish government. The episcopate deals with religious education. And it is at school that we together with the local community, with parents, young people and teachers will decide how certain rules will take shape. Of course, there is a concordat, it forces the Polish state to organize religious education, but I have read it a few times and there is nothing about two hours (religion per week – PAP)
– said Nowacka, who recalled that from September there will be one religion class per week.
The Education Minister also referred to the protests of the episcopate, which “wants to shift the responsibility for sending priests (for religious education – PAP) to us (that is, the Ministry of Education – PAP), and lay catechists will not be sent.”
I will gladly take care of every catechist and lay catechist. I help them retrain, I help them find opportunities to work at school, because they are often people who teach other subjects.
– promised the head of the Ministry of National Education, adding: “let the Church think about who it delegates” (to work in schools – PAP).
We spend an hour on religion because we comply with the terms of the concordat, but nothing more than what is written there. I see no reason to have more religion in school than biology, chemistry and history
– said Nowacka.
Barbara Nowacka first launches a drastic attack on religious education, cutting hours in schools, and only now does she speak kindly about alleged support for lay catechists?! It must be admitted that the minister woke up rather late…
— “Science and Religion”, “Stop discrimination against believers”. Protest in defense of religious education in schools on Castle Square in Warsaw!
– Letter from the Association of Secular Catechists to the President! “We turn to you as guardian of the constitutional order”
– The episcopate in defense of religious education in schools! There is a petition addressed to the President of the Supreme Court. Will the Constitutional Tribunal deal with the regulations of the Ministry of National Education?
