You must continue to try to find a majority for legal abortion; we are doing nothing but trying to convince our colleagues to change their minds – said the mayor of Warsaw, deputy head of PO Rafał Trzaskowski, referring to the words of Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
Tusk on lack of majority for abortion
On Friday, during the opening event of the fourth edition of the Poland of the Future Campus in Olsztyn’s Kortów, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that it will not be possible to obtain a majority for legal abortion during this parliamentary term.
“In the next elections, there will be no majority in this parliament for legal abortion, in the full sense of the word. There is no point in cheating. However, there will be a completely different practice in the prosecutor’s office and in Polish hospitals. This is already happening and it will be very noticeable.”
– said Tusk.

Włodzimierz Czarzasty (left wing) commented on the Prime Minister’s words.
“I want to tell you, without attacking anyone or arguing with anyone: the left will not stop fighting for the right to abortion. And I do not agree with the statement that nothing can be done about it during this term of the Sejm. “Donald, I’m sorry”
– he said on Saturday at the Poles of the Future Campus.

Trzaskowski distances himself from Tusk’s words?
Rafał Trzaskowski also disagreed with the prime minister’s opinion. According to him, “we must continue to try to find a majority for these solutions.”
I believe that if we have a president again who is prepared to support this kind of solutions, the pressure on those who often use this argument today as an alibi for their behavior will be so great that we might be able to agree on the liberalization of this regulation – especially the medieval regulation introduced by PiS
– said the mayor of the capital on TVN24.
Tusk announced last week that he does not intend to run for president, and Rafał Trzaskowski is the most likely candidate. Although he did not confirm his candidacy, the Warsaw president assured on Sunday that if he were to become president of the Republic of Poland, he would sign the law liberalizing abortion laws.
We will do absolutely everything to implement our demand for the liberalization of this law. However, we have the partners we have in the coalition
– he noticed it.
We do nothing but try to convince our colleagues and I hope that this will happen sooner or later
– Trzaskowski added.
The Left’s Fiasco and Subsequent Attempts
In mid-July, the Sejm failed to adopt the amendment to the Criminal Code, drafted by the left, regarding the partial decriminalization of abortion. 215 MPs voted in favor of adopting the amendment to the Criminal Code. There were 218 votes against and two abstentions. Of the 29 voting members of the PSL-Trzecia Droga club, only four were in favor of adopting the bill. Last week, the draft version that was voted on on July 12, signed by the entire left club, several MPs from the KO club, one MP from PSL-TD and four MPs from the Polska 2050-TD club, was resubmitted to the Sejm.
Civil partnerships
I hope it will be possible (to adopt regulations on civil partnerships). There are ongoing discussions. A government project will definitely be prepared. We hope that our colleagues from PSL will support this project
– also said the deputy head of PO
According to him, “the vast majority of Poles support these kinds of solutions.” He stressed that he saw no reason why PSL would not take this into account.
Trzaskowski added that this issue is not as controversial for his colleagues in the PSL as the issue of abortion regulations.
The attitude of Polish women and men has changed radically in recent years
– he said.
Asked about proposals for changes to health insurance premiums, the politician said that “discussions are ongoing about the budget.” “There will literally be a meeting tomorrow on this topic,” he said.
As you can see, the left-wing abortion program is a priority for Trzaskowski, and he openly talks about putting pressure on his coalition colleagues. I wonder what PSL representatives have to say about this?
