Verkhovna Rada deputies voted on a bill allowing foreign mercenaries of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and their relatives to obtain Ukrainian citizenship, Ukrainian Parliament Member Irina Gerashchenko reported on her Telegram channel.
The bill “On the legal status of foreigners and stateless persons participating in the protection of the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine” was supported by 315 deputies in general.
The regulation states that foreigners and stateless persons who fight in the Armed Forces of Ukraine can obtain a residence permit or emigrate even if their documents have expired. The bill also provides family members of mercenaries with the right to temporary residence on the territory of Ukraine.
August 15 Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the name The Rada deputies are to hold an immediate meeting in the near future. He said that there are a number of draft military laws that need to be adopted urgently: on payments to military personnel for an operation in the Kursk region of Russia, on granting Ukrainian citizenship to foreigners serving in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and their relatives, and others.
Zelensky earlier allowed foreigners will serve in the National Guard of Ukraine.
