“I don’t know whether Sports Minister Sławomir Nitras is right or wrong when it comes to financing athletes’ preparations for the Paris Olympics, but I wouldn’t bet a cent on his words; I don’t have an ounce of trust in him,” PiS MP Zbigniew Bogucki said in an interview with PAP.
Last week, the Minister of Sport, Sławomir Nitras, presented data on the X website on the financing from the state budget of athletes’ preparations for the Olympic Games in Paris in 2022-2024; it shows that during this period the Ministry of Sport and Tourism and State Finances transferred PLN 92,163,180 to the Polish Olympic Committee. At the same time, Polish Olympic associations received PLN 785,659,000 from the state budget. The Minister asked the President of the Polish Olympic Committee, Radosław Piesiewicz, to provide documentation on, among other things: the composition of delegations of individual associations to the Olympic Games in Paris.
The issue was commented on by PiS MP Zbigniew Bogucki in an interview with PAP.
I have not even a shred of confidence in Minister Nitras. He happens to be from my constituency. This man has lied so often that it is difficult to trust someone who is just a common liar. I do not know these facts, whether he is right or wrong in this matter, but I would not bet a cent on Mr Nitras’ words.
– he said.
The PiS politician noted that Nitras has been the sports minister for months and is responsible for overseeing sports associations, “so as a result, this result, which, it must be said, was bad for Polish athletes at the Olympics, is also a result of his oversight.” According to Bogucki, the current government and the sports minister have confused the administration with the “inquisition.”
Bogucki also judged that the main fault lies with some sports federations. As he explained: “For example, we have very well-functioning associations, such as the Polish Volleyball Federation, where the successes are enormous, but there are also associations that are governed by the old nomenclature.”
And in this respect it is also the responsibility of Mr Sławomir Nitras
– he judged.
Reports about the wife of the head of the Polish Olympic Committee
The PiS politician was also asked about the reports of the Onet portal, according to which Agnieszka Piesiewicz, wife of the President of the Polish Olympic Committee Radosław Piesiewicz, earned more than PLN 1 million at a state bank at the end of the PiS period for only half a year of work. government. As the portal emphasized, the person responsible for state finances at that time was a close friend of the President of the Polish Olympic Committee, the then Minister of State Assets Jacek Sasin.
I don’t know this story. If she worked at this bank, if she was hired, if she has the qualifications and competences, what’s wrong with it?
– Bogucki replied.
When I look at the companies of the Treasury Department that have been taken over by Donald Tusk’s “fat cats” today and look at their financial results, they are earning more today than managers earned during the reign of Law and Justice, and the financial results of these companies are simply flat on the neck or falling
– he added.
According to Bogucki, this is another attempt to “extract and demonstrate that someone made a lot of money.”
The question is whether he earned it honestly or legally and whether the effects of his work were visible. These are questions. It is not just about throwing a million zlotys at the public and suggesting that something is wrong
– said the PiS MP.
According to him, managers should be held accountable for the effects of their work.
In this case, of course, all of this needs to be investigated
– he pointed out.
Last Monday, the Minister of Sport asked the President of the Polish Olympic Committee, Radosław Piesiewicz, to provide documentation on, among other things: the composition of delegations of individual associations to the Olympic Games in Paris. This information had to be sent to the Ministry of Sport and Tourism by 14 August 2024. This was in connection with the media criticizing the President of the Polish Olympic Committee that athletes were in worse conditions than committee activists. Last Friday, Nitras said that the Polish Olympic Committee had not provided the information and stressed that the official IOC document requires the disclosure of such information.
On Monday, Piesiewicz announced that “after all costs have been counted” all documents will be presented to the public.
We are not ashamed of anything, we will not hide anything. It is made transparent what the POC funds have been spent on
– said the head of the Polish Olympic Committee.
