Donald Tusk suddenly announced that Poland would compete to host one of the next Olympic Games. “The announcement of the organization of the Olympic Games, the cost of which could be about PLN 65 billion, shows that the thinking about development priorities among state leaders is, to put it mildly, flawed,” said MP Paulina Matysiak, suspended from the Left Club, on Tusk’s announcement.
We have an underfunded civil service, health care, demographic collapse, shrinking provincial towns and villages, the threat of war, the exclusion of communications, ploughed civil defense, and we want to organize a two-week Olympic Games in Warsaw. Let’s focus on priorities!
– she appealed Paulina Matysiak.
The MP mentioned what PLN 65 billion could be spent on, that is, the estimated costs she presented for hosting the Olympic Games in Poland.
For PLN 65 billion we can:
financing a major pro-demographic package (for example increasing maternity and parental leave payments to 100% for the entire duration of the leave);
to finance the construction of a nuclear power plant by more than half (cost about PLN 100 billion);
to finance the construction of the CPK program by more than half (costing about PLN 130 billion);
building civil protection infrastructure and training personnel responsible for crisis management at municipal and provincial level (more than PLN 100 billion is needed);
introducing solutions to support an ageing society
– she said.
“‘Tusk is presenting a fake success’
Matysiak noted that Donald Tusk had other priorities than the issues she mentioned.
Meanwhile, Donald Tusk is presenting a success story, which he will try to cover up with fake actions in areas of strategic importance for Poland’s development. The Olympic stadiums in Warsaw will not fill empty classrooms or finance hospitals. They will not increase the security of the residents of Kutno, Sieradz or Braniewo. They will not offer cheap apartments for families in Warsaw, Kraków or Poznań.
– Matysiak noted.
So the choice is simple: sustainable development for all Poles, no two-week matches in Warsaw
– she added.
The Razem Party politician also posted a telling meme showcasing Donald Tusk’s government’s approach to spending public money.
