“PSL is in a coalition that has a negative image. I am not talking only about the Third Way and Hołownia, but also about Donald Tusk. This construction itself is contradictory,” said Prof. on Television in Poland. Mieczysław Ryba, political scientist and historian at the Catholic University of Lublin. The academic also referred to the anniversary of the Battle of Warsaw.
Professor Ryba commented on the idea of the head of the Ministry of National Defence, Władysław Kosiniak-Komysz, who announced a draft law on patriotic education.
Please pay attention to what is happening in schools. When Mrs. Nowacka rules in schools, she reduces religious education and marginalizes the patriotic message. This is all a contradiction. PSL comes in with its image as a patriotic people’s party. Immediately, it somehow agrees with what is happening in the coalition room. This is a contradictory message
– he said.

The political scientist noted that the Polish People’s Party’s poor polling results are a result of its coalition with Donald Tusk.
PSL is in a coalition that has a negative image. I am not only talking about the Third Way and Hołownia, but also about Donald Tusk. This construction itself is contradictory. If we look at the agricultural policy program or the attitude towards the Green Deal of Szymon Hołownia and PSL, we see contradictions at many points. PSL was afraid to go with Law and Justice under the threat of destruction, dissolution or disappearance of this party. It turned out that it was much worse for them to go with Tusk. It is a difficult situation, because they will not stand out in the presidential elections, and the next ones will be parliamentary elections. At the moment, it seems that Kosiniak-Kamysz is under pressure. He himself chose this coalition, but above all, he is in this coalition without much resistance
– he added.
Anniversary of the Battle of Warsaw
Professor Mieczysław Ryba was asked about the importance of the Battle of Warsaw for the whole of Europe.
We were dealing with the advance of communism to the west. By the way, communism, which came across as a revolution. The whole of Europe could have been communicated. It is difficult to imagine what further consequences this could have had for the fate of the continent. The Bolsheviks were stopped. Let us not forget that there are two aspects. One aspect is the military aspect, that is, the classic Polish-Russian wars, of which there were many. The second aspect is the ideological aspect. One of the most criminal ideologies in the world won in Russia. Stopping this criminal ideology was of fundamental importance for the fate of the world. Poland defended the West from barbarism. This is the importance and the order of this struggle
– he emphasized.
According to the KUL historian, several factors contributed to the Polish victory in 1920.
The miracle was that after the defeats at Kiev and the general breakthrough of the front in the east, there was a huge mobilization of Polish society. Without this, it would be difficult to talk about defense. The Church also played a big role in boosting morale. The Bolsheviks came up with slogans to free the oppressed people from the rule of lords, manufacturers, etc. Here these religious elements were of great importance. Here we also saw the heroic attitude of a soldier and some well-thought-out tactics. All this together resulted in victory. This victory came at an important moment in the end of the First World War. People wanted peace, so the mobilization there was very big
– he noticed it.
According to the professor, the victory was partly possible thanks to national unity.
At that time, we were actually dealing with a government of national unity. We were dealing with Prime Minister Witos, that is, peasants, the main core of the Polish army. We were dealing with socialists from the PPS. They join the government and oppose this Bolshevik revolution. However, this PPS was patriotic. Of course, nationalists or all sorts of similar groups. This is a situation of national unity at a time of extreme danger. Political unity and social unity provide the opportunity to defend the Polish state. Without it, as we know, there is no defense. It is similar to the war in Ukraine. Let us imagine a situation where it all started more than two years ago and suddenly we are dealing with political conflicts and divisions in society. There would be no defense, regardless of the army
– he concluded.
