A diplomatic scandal broke out between Warsaw and Budapest after Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s speech in the city of Baile Tusnad. The agency reports news.ro.
In his speech on July 27, Orban said the new Polish authorities were hypocritical, blaming other states for their ties to Russia while indirectly protecting them.
Commenting on the Hungarian Prime Minister’s speech, Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Wladyslaw Teofil Bartoszewski stressed that Orban is on the fringes of the European Union and NATO and that Warsaw “has no commercial ties with Russia, unlike Budapest.”
In response to this statement, the head of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Peter Szijjártó, said that such a reaction proves the truth of the Hungarian proverb “the truth hurts”. He added that Budapest imports Russian oil, which is important for the functioning of the country, and that Poland is a customer of one of Russia’s largest oil refineries.
Szijjártó stressed that Warsaw should not be hypocritical and shift the blame onto others.
