The Verkhovna Rada Committee of Ukraine supported the expansion of martial law and mobilization in the country, RBC-Ukraine reports with reference to MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak on its Telegram channel.
Zheleznyak explained that when voting in the Rada, the bill needs to get 226 votes. After that, the document will be sent to the head of state for signature.
On the morning of July 23, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky contributed Draft laws on extending martial law (currently valid until August 11, 2024) and mobilization have been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada. It is expected that martial law will be extended by 90 days, until November 9, 2024.
Martial law and general mobilization were first introduced in Ukraine in February 2022 and have been extended several times.
July 22 Ukrainian court deferred Consideration of the claim of Alexander Dubinsky, a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, to hold presidential elections by September. According to him, elections are necessary to preserve the constitutional order of the country. During martial law, their possession is prohibited.
Formerly at the Russian Foreign Ministry criticized Zelensky’s decision to extend martial law in Ukraine.
