In the program “Romanowski’s Breakfast on Polsat News and Interia” there was a sharp exchange of views on the decriminalization of abortion. At one point, Presidential Minister Małgorzata Paprocka addressed Michał Szczerba directly. “Mr. MP, please do not lecture me,” she stressed.
Mr MP, please do not lecture me because I am a woman and I have the right to have my opinion on this matter.
– said Małgorzata Paprocka.
You have your opinion, but most women have a different opinion and they expressed it on October 15
– Szczerba intervened.
“Everyone has the right to have their own opinion.”
But sir… Please don’t interrupt me… Sir Everyone has the right to their own opinion and please don’t put all women in one bag because there are absolutely both opinions here and as you spoke so beautifully about this I have great respect for you. I would like to ask you to respect those conservative points of view as well
– said the presidential minister.
The Sejm did not adopt an amendment to the Criminal Code, which provided for the decriminalization of assisted abortion and termination of pregnancy with the consent of the pregnant woman up to the twelfth week of pregnancy. The project was prepared by MPs from the left.
Among the 218 MPs who opposed the adoption of the amendment to the Criminal Code, there were 176 PiS MPs, 24 PSL-TD MPs (including Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and Deputy Speaker of the Sejm Piotr Zgorzelski), all voting MPs from the Confederation Club – 17 and the Kukiz’15 group – 2 MPs. Of the 29 PSL-TD MPs who voted, 4 were in favor of adopting the bill: Agnieszka Kłopotek, Jolanta Zieba-Gzik, Urszula Pasławska and Magdalena Sroka. One PSL MP – Adam Dziedzic – abstained from voting. The following people did not vote: Minister of Agriculture Czesław Siekierski and Deputy Minister of State Assets Zbigniew Ziejewski.
There were 154 MPs from KO, 30 MPs from Poland 2050 and 26 MPs from the left. None of the MPs from Civic Coalition, Poland 2050 or the Left Club voted against. Three KO MPs did not participate in the vote: Krzysztof Grabczuk, Waldemar Sługocki and Roman Giertych, who was in the Sejm on Friday.
As announced by Senate Deputy Speaker Magdalena Biejat, “the left will again submit the bill decriminalizing abortion, and will continue to submit it until it is implemented.” She called the Sejm’s failure to adopt the draft amendment to the Criminal Code regarding the decriminalization of abortion assistance “a disgrace for the PSL.”
