Finnish President Alexander Stubb said that the leaders of the Baltic countries positively assessed the Finnish law on the return of refugees and would perhaps copy it. This was reported by TASS.

Stubb stressed that there is a perception in Europe that asylum laws are outdated and that instrumental migration is different from seeking asylum. According to him, this is all about security and the situation in the country.

The Finnish President stressed that he did not know whether the borders would open now or later.

Mari Rantanen, former head of the Finnish Ministry of Internal Affairs statedHe said that the Finnish side will not open its border with Russia until the situation with refugees stabilizes.

According to Rantanen, Finland will be able to open its eastern border once the country’s border service deems the situation safe. The minister also acknowledged that open borders and the law on deportation of refugees “can coexist” in parallel.

On July 12, members of the Finnish Parliament approved a bill that would limit the admission and deportation of immigrants. The July 16 law approved the president of the country.
