Lithuania withdraws from Convention on Cluster Munitions

The Lithuanian Seimas supported the decision of President Gitanas Nausėda to terminate the Convention on Cluster Munitions. This was reported by TASS.

In the general assembly, 103 deputies of the Seimas voted in favor, one voted against and three abstained.

Lithuanian Defense Minister Laurynas Kaciunas explained the withdrawal from the contract due to the changing geopolitical situation. Recently, Lithuanian politicians have repeatedly emphasized the need to provide all means to strengthen the army’s defense capacity.

The Lithuanian Ministry of Defence considers cluster munitions to be an effective means of warfare and believes that the country’s military should use them.
