For Poland, the most important thing is that the policy of the North Atlantic Alliance is stable. NATO must constantly strengthen and demonstrate its unity, President Andrzej Duda said in an interview for Fox News.
The US policy on building security systems is stable and I, as the President of Poland, appreciate it very much. This is fundamental
– said President Andrzej Duda when asked, among other things, about the policies of US President Joe Biden.
The Polish President in an interview with Fox News
Andrzej Duda is on an official visit to Washington, where the jubilee summit marking the 75th anniversary of the founding of NATO began on Tuesday evening. The Polish leader gave an interview to the American television channel Fox News, in which he said, among other things: about the importance of the US for the security of Poland and the eastern flank of NATO.
Today I can say this from a Polish point of view. As the president of a country on whose borders a large-scale war is going on, the most important thing is that NATO policy is stable. We do not need new super ideas, big ideas today. There are proven methods by which you can stop a potential aggressor. Today NATO must strengthen itself, show its unity and above all pursue a tough, consistent policy
– said Andrzej Duda.
The president pointed out that the most important role in NATO is played by the United States, which has the greatest influence and the greatest military capabilities, and is “the de facto leader of the North Atlantic Alliance.”
That is why a stable American policy is of fundamental importance to us
– he emphasized.
American elections
Referring to the upcoming US presidential elections and the candidacy of Donald Trump, whose attitude towards NATO and engagement with Europe remains ambiguous, President Duda stated that he has a very good relationship with Trump “on a personal level”.
I appreciate him very much, respect him, personally I just like him. I enjoy every opportunity when we can talk, because he is a man who has a lot of interesting life experiences, not only political but also business.
– he judged.
The president added that his relations with subsequent US presidents during his nine-year presidency had been excellent.
The US policy on building security systems is stable and I, as the President of Poland, appreciate it very much. This is fundamental
– he said, expressing his gratitude for the presence of American soldiers in Poland and the security cooperation.
“We stand with the United States as a proven and loyal ally.”
The president also stressed the role of the West and the United States in supporting Ukraine and emphasized that Russia cannot win the war it has started in Ukraine.
The United States, as a superpower that has repeatedly defended world peace, has a unique role to play here. We, Poland, stand with the US as a proven and loyal ally
– the president stated. He also stressed the importance of NATO allies to increase spending on security and defense capabilities in light of the Russian threat.
Andrzej Duda also judged that the period of Donald Trump’s presidency in 2016-2020 was a “good time for Poland”.
I will never forget his arrival in Warsaw for the Three Seas Initiative Summit. The presence of the President of the United States gave a strong impetus to the development of cooperation within the Three Seas Initiative, which brought many successes in the field of infrastructure in the form of the expansion of roads, railways and gas connections, which later saved us from Russian gas blackmail during the war in Ukraine.
– he said.
NATO summit in shadow of US political unrest
This year’s NATO summit in Washington comes amid political unrest in the US. After a poor performance in the election debate with Donald Trump and despite calls to withdraw from the fight for a second term, President Joe Biden is fighting to save his candidacy in the November election. The summit will undoubtedly be clouded by uncertainty over the possible return to the White House of Donald Trump, who has criticized the cost of aid to Ukraine and announced that the war would be ended through negotiations with Vladimir Putin.
