We agreed to form and train a Ukrainian legion in Poland; it will be a new formation, consisting of volunteers, which could enable Ukrainian citizens in Poland to take part in the defense of Ukraine, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Referring to the Polish-Ukrainian security deal signed on Monday, President Zelensky said it was a “momentous and ambitious agreement” that he said “will greatly help us protect the lives of our citizens and counter Russian evil.”
The Ukrainian president stressed that particularly important provisions of this agreement concern cooperation “in countering Russian airstrikes that could target Poland.”
Here, together with our military specialists, we will develop mechanisms for the rapid implementation of this point of our agreement
– Zelensky noted.
In our agreement we also agreed to form and train a Ukrainian legion in Poland. It will be a new formation, consisting of volunteers, which, following the example of the Ukrainian-Polish-Lithuanian brigade, would enable Ukrainian citizens in Poland to participate in the defense of Ukraine.
said Zelensky.
The Ukrainian Legion would be trained in Poland, equipped and armed. Any citizen of Ukraine who decides to join the legion will be able to sign a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
– Zelensky added.
