After a huge disgrace, Donald Tusk continues to reaffirm the EU’s commitment to building the so-called ‘independence’ Shield East. Last week, after the EU summit, Tusk declared that EU leaders agreed to co-finance such projects. His words were denied by the German media, which reported that Chancellor Scholz had “crawled” him. Today, intergovernmental consultations between Poland and Germany took place at the Prime Minister’s Office, with Scholz’s participation. “Today, in a conversation with Olaf Scholz, we had a similar opinion,” Tusk said after the talks.
After the EU summit that ended on Thursday on defense issues, Donald Tusk announced a huge success, namely the approval of EU leaders to, among other things, the East Shield. However, this soon turned out to be blasphemy on the part of the Prime Minister, because the media – especially the German one – denied his assurances. Scholza did not agree with such co-financing. According to Tusk, the issue of co-financing of the so-called East Shield would return today during a meeting with the German Chancellor in Warsaw. The Prime Minister stressed that the European Union is interested and ready to work on this issue.

Tusk is going backwards
Tusk reiterated that the EU would finance the construction of fortifications on our eastern border. According to him, these are the findings of the European Council.
They clearly show that the European Union is interested in and willing to work for both the ‘Eastern Shield’ and for the effective defence of the eastern border of the European Union. (…) Even after the European Council, there is no doubt that Europe must feel responsible for safe airspace above Europe. Today we had a similar opinion in a conversation with Olaf Scholz
– said the head of the Civic Platform, stating that “actions must be in line with the treaties on this issue and that Europe can take over some of the responsibility for our security.”
I have no expectations, we can handle it, we spend 4%. in our defense. I don’t want Germany to buy tanks for us. We will do our own purchases and will be more efficient than any other country in Europe
– stressed Tusk, who again announced success after the talks with Scholz.
We have something concrete. We will work together to ensure that Europe co-finances activities such as the construction of technical infrastructure on our eastern border
– said Prime Minister Donald Tusk after the end of the intergovernmental talks between Poland and Germany.
He explained that this means readiness for Polish-German and European cooperation for “joint, international activities through the construction of various types of infrastructure.”
But if we have a problem with how to deal with real actions in a sensible way, for example restoring wetlands or water reservoirs, we have a very rational plan. Nothing stands in the way and I am glad that we have achieved this specificity so that we can act together so that Europe co-finances activities such as the reconstruction of wetlands, water reservoirs and the construction of technical infrastructure near our border.”
– Tusk stated. The prime minister stressed the importance of taking such actions together.
The natural environment, Polish and European security can benefit from this
– the Prime Minister noted.
Tusk has no doubt – as he assured – that the details obtained during Tuesday’s conversation concern many activities, especially Polish-German and European cooperation on the Polish border and in the field of security.
