“If there is no response to this scandal, we, as the “Dignity” Association, which has been working with the Museum of the Second World War for many years, will boycott all celebrations organized by the current authorities,” the statement read. of the Association “Dignity”.
Members of the Association strongly oppose the decision of the authorities of the Museum of the Second World War to remove Polish national heroes from the museum exhibition.
We, former political prisoners of martial law and activists of the underground ‘Solidarity’ in the 1980s, affiliated with the Association ‘Dignity’, strongly protest the shameful removal from the permanent exhibition of the Museum of the Second World War of exhibits about: Captain Witold Pilecki, the blessed Ulma family and Saint Maksymilian Kolbe – great figures from our recent history. Heroes who during the Second World War, when Poles and Poles suffered the greatest sacrifices, sacrificed their lives for their homeland and their brothers

Such an incomprehensible and unjustified decision of the museum’s new management – professors Rafał Wnuk, Paweł Machcewicz and Janusz Marszalec – not only proves a different understanding of patriotism and historical sensitivity present in the souls and hearts of Poles. And not just about the sensible understanding of private copyright in an exhibition organized in an important public institution. It also shows political motivation, making the changes implemented in the museum part of a coup d’état that is dangerous for Poland and is being carried out by the current ruling coalition in many state institutions. And let’s add to this: the ‘traditional’ pedagogy of shame, used for years by influential media and scientific circles, intended to make us less proud of our Polishness… It’s all scandalous
– write to members of the association.
The authors of the letter remind us of the actions of the authorities of the Polish People’s Republic.
Our environment, the people of the former “Solidarity”, have already experienced and seen a lot. We remember that during the Polish People’s Republic there were two categories of builders of this new, beautiful system: ‘fixers’ (of people’s power) and ‘improvers’ (of history). Well, in the context of the recent exploits of the management of the Museum of the Second World War, it must unfortunately be noted that the “correctors” have returned. Some of them surprisingly graduated from the Catholic University of Lublin (removing the exhibition of the Saint and the Blessed!). We believe that historians and heads of state institutions, such as the current directors of the Museum of the Second World War, should be immediately dismissed and that the former form of the exhibition should be urgently restored, which we strongly demand. We also appeal to the spiritual authorities to take an interest in the situation where the memory of important figures for the Church in our country is under attack.

Boycott the party
“Dignity” also announces a boycott of state ceremonies.
If there is no response to this scandal, we, as the “Dignity” Association, which has been working with the Museum of the Second World War for many years, will boycott all celebrations organized by the current authorities. We also ask the people of Gdańsk to actively defend the truth in this very important historical facility.
