Wife of an Australian journalist and founder of the service WikiLeaks Julianne Assange’s Stella said on her social media account X that her husband’s conviction puts an end to “this baseless smear campaign”.
“The judge’s statements regarding the sentence put an end to this unfounded smear campaign,” he said.
Before that, US officials prohibited WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is expected to return to the country without special permission. Following the decision, Assange will go from the USA to Australia.
Assange’s lawyer, Barry Pollack, said that the organization’s work to be continued.
Judge Ramona Manglona of the U.S. District Court for the Island of Saipan (Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands) accepted WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is guilty of conspiracy to obtain and distribute classified information. He received a sentence equivalent to time already served in a British prison, the court ruled.
