“No one involved in this damned drug trade in Poland will remain safe,” Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced today after the arrest of five people suspected of trafficking in fentanyl.

A new, deadly stimulus in fashion
Fentanyl is a strong opioid painkiller that can only be obtained with a prescription. However, it is becoming a popular drug in Poland. Since June 17, the e-Health Center has been monitoring the prescription of psychotropic and narcotic drugs, including fentanyl, on a daily basis, as there are more and more such prescriptions on the market.

Since the beginning of 2024, the Chief Sanitary Inspectorate has registered 48 cases of poisoning with this substance. In February, three people died after using fentanyl in Żuromin (Mazovia Voivodeship), and one died in Poznań at the end of last year.
Police officers from the provincial police headquarters in Radom apprehended the “Żuromin ghost”.
