The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in Georgia criticized US Ambassador Robin Dunnigan’s statement regarding the claim that the Chinese Communist Party, owner of the company planning to build the Anaklia port on the Black Sea, finances the Russian army. In the statement made by the Chinese diplomatic mission, it is emphasized that the American ambassador to Georgia “did not show professionalism” when making such loud statements.
“The US Ambassador’s statements that the Chinese Communist Party owns the China Communications Construction Company and that this company and the Chinese Communist Party are the number one financiers of the Russian military are meaningless and seriously inappropriate,” the Beijing embassy in Tbilisi said.
Dunnigan stated that the Chinese Communist Party, which has a large share in the CCSS company that will build the Anaklia port, is alleged to be financing the Russian Armed Forces.
Georgian government in March 2024 announced International tender for the design and construction of Anaklia port, the deepest port of the Black Sea. The Ministry of Economy of the Republic noted that the competition was announced within the framework of World Bank procedures.
Later, China Communications Construction Company Limited (China) and China Harbor Investment Pte. It was understood that there was a consortium. Ltd (Singapore) was the sole contender for the construction of the port in Anaklia.
