The head of state said that many people in Finland are concerned about the existence of a 1,300-kilometer-long common border with Russia. According to him, Finland has had more than 30 “wars and conflicts” with Russia since the 13th century.
“Russia occupied Finland during World War II, we lost 10% of our territory, including the land where my grandparents were born and the land where my father was born,” he said, explaining Finland’s active involvement in aiding Ukraine.
The war between the USSR and Finland lasted from November 30, 1939 to March 12, 1940. Hostilities ended with the signing of the Moscow Peace Treaty, according to which Finland transferred approximately 10% of its territory to the Soviet Union.
