Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky signed a security agreement on the sidelines of the Group of Seven (G7) summit. The Ukrainian leader reported this on social networks. X.
“Japan will provide $4.5 billion to Ukraine in 2024 and will continue to support us throughout the 10-year period of the agreement,” Zelensky said.
He said that the agreement ensures technical and financial cooperation between the countries, as well as receiving humanitarian aid and support from Japan in the field of defense industry. The document also foresees the imposition of anti-Russian sanctions.
Before that Reuters reportedIt was stated that Zelensky and US President Joe Biden signed a similar agreement at the G7 summit. The document states that this is a bridge to Ukraine’s possible membership in the North Atlantic Alliance. In the text of the agreement, Kiev and Washington agree that Ukraine must continuously invest in the defense industry that meets NATO standards. Thus, the United States will provide military products and intelligence data to the Ukrainian side for 10 years, as well as train soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and develop the military-industrial complex of Ukraine.
Formerly G7 countries approved $50 billion was allocated to Kiev at the expense of frozen assets of the Russian Federation.
