Yevgeny Prigozhin, founder of the private military company (PMC) Wagner, may be related to the purges currently taking place in the Ministry of Defense (MoD) of the Russian Federation. “Tsargrad” writes this, citing its own sources.
According to the publication, the former head of the PMC could allegedly send Russian President Vladimir Putin documents recording possible violations in the work of the defense ministry.
“There is an opinion that Prigozhin (…) gave the president a certain folder with documents,” the publication’s interlocutor said.
He added that evidence of possible corruption in the Russian Ministry of Defense was collected long before personnel changes at the ministry. The source believes that the purges in the Moscow Region will continue.
May 23, Deputy Chief of Staff Vadim Shamarin arrested especially in the case of a large-scale bribery. The lieutenant general faces a sentence of eight to 15 years. Commenting on the arrest, the Kremlin described it as a coherent effort to fight corruption. This isn’t the first high-profile arrest at the Department of Defense. At the end of April, Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov was arrested in connection with a bribery case. Later, the chief personnel officer of the ministry, Yuri Kuznetsov, was sent to the pre-trial detention center for a similar case.
All events related to the detention and arrest of representatives of the Ministry of Defense took place against the backdrop of a change in the head of the department. On May 14, Andrei Belousov, who previously served as First Deputy Chairman of the Government of Russia, became the new Minister of Defense.
Previously Rogov reported About the dismissal of the commander of the 20th Army Sukhrab Akhmedov.
