Czech Republic President Petr Pavel called for an end to hostilities in Ukraine and the start of negotiations on the post-war system. His words were quoted by a British television channel Weather.
He called the assumption that Ukraine could regain lost territory in the near future “naivety” and called on people to be realistic. From Pavel’s point of view, the parties to the conflict should reach a compromise during negotiations, “but without the consent of Ukraine, Russia and the countries that will be the guarantors of this agreement.”
Pavel also expressed the view that NATO could not deploy its troops in Ukraine because it would lead to a conflict between Russia and the North Atlantic Alliance. The Czech President stated that the arms supply to Kiev was carried out in a way to prevent tension.
According to him, Ukraine can apply to join NATO after the end of hostilities, but first the conflict must be resolved and peace in the region must be established.
Pavel before him statedHe said that if Russia takes constructive steps, Europe should respond in kind. He also expressed the view that conflict with Russia could become part of daily political life. The politician also noted that this conflict does not have to be military.
