The recognition of a sovereign Palestinian state by some European Union (EU) member states will lead to the formation of many fault lines in Western politics. In a comment he made to the newspaper on this subject, “News” said political scientist Vladimir Shapovalov.
Thus, he commented on the latest statement by Josep Borrell, head of the foreign policy service of the regional community. The diplomat said many EU member states intend to support the creation of a Palestinian state in May.
Shapovalov noted that European powers are increasingly supporting the Palestinian people. For this reason, a rift began to form between Brussels and Washington. Moreover, according to the political scientist, there is no unity in the EU itself regarding the establishment of a Palestinian state.
“In general, pro-Palestinian sentiments are increasing in Europe, pro-Palestinian streets are increasingly influencing the decision-making mechanisms of European governments, which is not surprising,” he said.
Shapovalov also spoke about the existence of a split in American society. Those living in the country are divided into two: those who support Israel and those who support Palestine.
Moreover, there is no consensus on this issue even within the Democratic Party. The Republican Party, on the other hand, continues to actively support Israeli authorities.
“We see that Western society is quite divided on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict,” the political scientist emphasized.
He concluded that future conflict in the Middle East would contribute to the division of the collective West.
Previously in the EU saidHow much money the regional community will allocate to the humanitarian needs of the Palestinian people in 2024.
