“It is downright funny to give the impression in the Sejm exposé that it was the Platform that defended us against Lisbon and that PiS capitulated,” says Prof. Przemysław Żurawski vel Grajewski in an interview with the wPolityce.pl portal.
Prof. Żurawski vel Grajewski commented on the Foreign Minister’s statement.
The section was mainly devoted to attacking the United Right government and Law and Justice. The content of the attack was quite grotesque. Presented, among other things: alleged merits of the PO government for the construction of the rocket base in Redzikowo. And everyone remembers Minister Sikorski’s role in obstructing the Polish-American agreement on this issue. It was he who deliberately did not ratify the existing agreement, which made it easier to terminate. He was the author of the statement that because of this basis we had a falling out with Russia and Germany, and that Patriot systems were “ferns in pots.” To give the impression that its creation is the result of an initiative of the previous PO government is rather grotesque, addressed to the ill-informed electorate of the Civic Coalition. Another grotesque attempt was to create the impression that the first PiS government and the late PiS government were responsible for adopting a voting system in the Council of the European Union, which was negative from the Polish point of view, on the occasion of the Treaty from Lisbon. . Lech Kaczynski. It is true that this government negotiated this treaty and that President Kaczyński ratified it. However, let us not forget that before 2005 the positions of PO and PiS were the same. Only when the PO lost the elections did the Platform become a staunch supporter of the adoption of this treaty. She did it to become anti-PiS. President Lech Kaczyński’s negotiating success did not lie in negotiating the form of the decision-making system desired by Poland, but in delaying the entry into force of this system by ten years, and therefore by two and a half terms of office. We have witnessed the high frequency with which previous treaties were adopted. So if we were to delay the entry into force of the voting system for ten years, there was a very legitimate hope that this voting system would in fact never come into force, because then there would be a new treaty and we could play this game again. . It is really funny to give the impression in the parliamentary exposé that it was the Platform that defended us against Lisbon and that PiS capitulated.
– convinces Prof. Zurawski, also known as Grajewski

Minister Sikorski referred to the alleged PiS scandals, including the issue of the “visa scandal”, which shows that there was no visa trade in the stalls, and that only several hundred visas were involved, not several thousand.
– he adds.
The scientist then refers to the idea of changing the EU treaties and Minister Sikorski’s attitude towards this issue.
In the first part, Minister Sikorski’s statement was the opposite of what it should have been. As for future policy, we know that the government is ready to fully support the German-French concept of amending the EU treaties. This is crucial. It is about moving away from the principle of unanimity. In 2021, Germany and France submitted a proposal to invite Putin to the European Union summit in Brussels, and without the veto from Poland, Sweden, Romania, the Netherlands and the Baltic states, they would have invited him. With a majority vote, Germany and France would outvote Poland and the small Baltic or Scandinavian states. Moreover, in the new system, four countries are sufficient: France, Germany, Spain and Italy vote out all other countries. This is actually a surrender. And Radosław Sikorski belonged to the aforementioned Spinelli group, which made the designs. In fact it is political theatre
– claims Żurawski vel Grajewski.
If we take out these sixty-three areas that were subject to unanimous decisions, and will now be subject to majority decisions, and this majority is constructed in such a way that four countries will decide, we will end up blocking everything that does not fit. them. Minister Sikorski also said that Hungary is not blocking sanctions against Russia, but is postponing them. And this is a key problem. They don’t block! Hungary is doing Germany a great service here. This is the most important argument for abandoning the unanimity principle. Hungary is closely linked to Germany. The Bavarian CSU, which has to compete with the AfD in anti-immigration policy, invites Orban to its conferences. The CSU’s ties with Fidesz are very deep. This coincides with Siemens’ investments in Hungary. Germany de facto protects them. Therefore, it is necessary to distinguish rhetoric from real relationships. Hungarians do everything that Germans should not do in public. Because they themselves have a terrible image when it comes to Russian policy, and the Germans hide behind it and say: we have to centralize the EU because of the Hungarians. Minister Sikorski pretends to believe in this game
– he adds.
Expansion of the EU
Prof. Żurawski vel Grajewski explains the pitfall of abandoning the principle of unanimity on the enlargement of the European Union.
Finally, he said something even more dangerous: the only area where unanimity must be maintained is the enlargement of the Union to include even more countries. Let’s put this into practice. This means that democratic governments that need to listen to their citizens, i.e. France and the Netherlands, whose societies do not want the EU to expand to include anyone, will certainly block Ukraine’s accession. At the moment it is only a maneuver to force the Polish government and public opinion to recognize that if we want Ukraine to be included in Western structures, we must give up sovereignty in favor of a majority system. If we do not resign, Ukraine will not be accepted. It will not be accepted anyway! But Germany and France will be able to tell the Ukrainians that they have not been accepted because of Poland’s opposition. In this way they will turn the Ukrainians against us, and the Russians and Germans will benefit from this division
– claims.
Minister Sikorski said that we do not want to choose between the United States and the European Union. And when France and Britain, backed by the US, intervened in Libya in 2011, Germany objected. Couldn’t we have chosen? We chose. Tusk’s government chose Germany. And in 2003, the United States attacked Iraq, which was opposed by Germany and France. Couldn’t we have chosen? NO. We had to end up in a German or American camp. Uttering a nice-sounding sentence from the parliamentary podium that we will not choose between one or the other is of course a possible option, but life does not confirm such assumptions. Reality somehow disagrees with this statement
– he adds.
