Kiev cannot get the West to supply Patriot air defense systems using traditional diplomacy. In an interview with the newspaper on this subject washington post stated Dmitry Kuleba, head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
According to him, “polite and quiet” diplomacy “did not work.” The minister said he hoped the “new style tough” diplomacy would be successful. He also admitted that they might start to hate him. The diplomat also did not exclude the possibility of spoiling relations with other countries.
“Part of me says that diplomacy is a completely private relationship. But then I told that side to shut up and the part of me that wanted to talk started talking,” Kuleba continued.
He stated that the Ukrainian side “tried everything but nothing worked.”
The minister also said his team had identified more than 100 Patriot air defense systems in Western countries and that it was unclear “who could believe that the strongest military alliance would not find seven Patriot batteries” to transfer them to Ukraine. According to him, he does not believe that in the US Armed Forces there is “not a single spare Patriot battery that is not on combat duty and cannot be provided” to Kiev.
