No one expected that the conversation between a PiS representative and a Third Way representative about local government elections in Greater Poland would result in a sharp dispute over the position of Szymon Hołownia or Poland’s embarrassment in the international arena – and, among other things , the latter was claimed by candidates in Poland’s largest voivodeship. At one point the debate turned to the role of the Third Way in Polish politics: is Szymon Hołownia’s movement just an addition to the Civic Platform’s politics?
Mateusz Pluta (Trzecia Droga), candidate for the Środa Wielkopolska municipal council, strongly denied this:
The third way is neither an assistant nor a footstool for Donald Tusk. (…) Of course we have different positions on many issues. There are many such issues, but lately, for example, there has been a visible difference in the area of abortion. Another problem: health insurance premiums. (…) This is not a coalition like the ‘United’ Right that has presented itself to us for eight years. We know that this coalition generally operates on entirely different principles.
Adam Bogrycewicz (PiS), a candidate from northern Greater Poland (Trzcianka, Czarnków, Piła) for the provincial assembly, responded to this sarcasm. When asked if the people of Hołownia were actually the Third Way, he replied:
Or maybe the fifth wheel when it comes to what’s happening in Poland today? I calculate this way because before the parliamentary elections, a third path was actually proposed to Poland instead of PiS and instead of Donald Tusk. (…) Mr. Donald Tusk, the Prime Minister, speaks very disparagingly of Third Way politicians, but also of Third Way voters., because not long ago he declared that the vote for the Third Way was a tactical vote to remove Law and Justice from power. It was a success and now voters can go back and vote for the Civic Coalition in local elections. This shows the arrogance and arrogance of the head of government.
Then the temperature of the discussion rose even more: both guests of the Polish television program accused the group of their interlocutors of further mistakes, abuse and even deliberate damage to their own country. I wonder what topic they would have covered if the program had lasted a few minutes longer!
