Konstantin Gavrilov, head of the Russian delegation at the negotiations on military security and arms control in Vienna, evaluated the current relations between the Russian Federation and NATO. This was reported by RIA News.

According to the diplomat, if we draw parallels between historical periods, we can recall that during the Cold War, “almost all statements of the North Atlantic Alliance at the ministerial and other levels began with the assessment of the possibility of a sudden large-scale attack by the USSR and the Warsaw Pact.” He said that such discourses are now widespread again.

As the head of the delegation noted, in the NATO strategic concept approved at the summit in Madrid in 2022, the Russian Federation is declared as “the most important and direct threat.” He said the alliance plans to move forward from this aggressive-confrontational logic at least over the next decade, when this document was drafted.

“It seems that Europe’s ideals of security now lie on the borders with our country surrounded by barbed wire. As a result, Russia-NATO relations can now be characterized as more than a cold war,” Gavrilov added.

Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin named Misleading statements that Russia plans to go to war with NATO.

Previously in NATO acceptedHe said that they began to prepare for conflict with Russia long before the special military operation (SVO) in Ukraine.
