Polish President Andrzej Duda signed a law suspending the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CEC). This was reported by RIA News referring to the presidency.
As can be seen from the text, suspension of the agreement would lead to Warsaw remaining an official party to the agreement but not complying with its provisions.
Before this, Russian President Vladimir Putin had signed a law condemning the Convention on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe. Later, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Russia would finally withdraw from the CFE Treaty. On November 7, 2023, the procedure for withdrawing the Russian Federation from the Convention on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe was finally completed.
The CFE Agreement was signed in Paris in 1990. In 2007, Moscow declared a moratorium on the implementation of the terms of the agreement due to the failure of NATO countries to ratify the agreement. Russia completed the suspension of its participation in the CFE Treaty in 2015 but officially remained in the agreement.
Previously Moldova suspended the Convention on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe.
