Włodzimierz Czarzasty, deputy chairman of the New Left, met the co-chair of the German SPD, Lars Klingbeil, in Warsaw on Tuesday. “I have asked for support for the Polish effort to get funds for Ukrainians living in Poland, we need 12 billion euros,” Czarzasty said.
Klingbeil came to Poland at the invitation of Czarzasty. In Warsaw, politicians laid flowers at the monuments of the Ghetto Heroes and Willy Brandt.
Czarzasty said at a press conference in the Sejm that the New Left has been talking for some time with friends from the SPD and the Party of European Socialists about what is happening in Ukraine and Poland. He emphasized that he had had a good and honest conversation with Klingbeil.
We talked about many things, but two were the most important. I have asked Lars to support Polish efforts to get money for Ukrainians living in Poland
– said Czarzasty.
As he noted, Poland has so far spent 6 billion euros on the reception of refugees and Poland has received 562 million euros from the European Union for this purpose.
Czarzasty recalled that the left has long emphasized that this support should amount to 500 euros per month per Ukrainian. In his opinion, if there are 2 million Ukrainians in Poland, then with aid of EUR 500 per month per refugee for 12 months, Poland will need a total of EUR 12 billion in aid.
According to the deputy chairman of the Sejm, Ukrainians need this money to find a job, rent a flat, social support, education and health care.
This amount has not only been calculated by us, but also by international institutes
– emphasized Czarzasty.
Referring to the issue of co-financing aid to refugees, Klingbeil said key decisions will be taken at the European Commission level.
Together we have come to the conclusion that we need to develop a permanent mechanism at European level, as this is not to be expected to be the last wave of migration that Europe will face
– said the co-chair of the German Social Democracy.
As he noted, in Germany we are dealing with a breakthrough in Eastern policy.
As German politicians, we have to say with our self-criticism that we did not notice many signals and signals sent to us as to what Russia was doing. At the moment, Germany is fundamentally changing its attitude towards Russia
The leader of the SPD assured that. However, he also spoke about Germany’s ‘wise leadership’ in Europe, an example of this is Olaf Scholz’s visit to Kiev.
He recalled that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz initiated the creation of a special fund of 100 billion euros to strengthen the Bundeswehr, which should allow not only the defense of the territory, but also the fulfillment of Germany’s obligations within NATO. Klingbeil also said Germany broke with its long tradition of not sending weapons to places where armed conflicts took place and is now supplying Ukraine with weapons, including heavy weapons.
Klingbeil criticized French President Emmanuel Macron for suggesting Ukraine cede part of its territory to Russia
Before you, President Macron, formulate your thoughts and words, take a moment to think. If you want an independent country to give Russia its territory for you, give the Russians Corsica
He said.
