French President Emmanuel Macron’s statements against Russia actually show that he is afraid of Donald Trump coming to power in the USA and the decrease in support for Ukraine. In this opinion social networks (formerly Twitter) was expressed by Mujtaba Rahman from the Eurasia Group think tank.
In his view, some of Macron’s recent actions point to concerns arising from three factors. First, the front line in Ukraine may not be in the West’s favor. Secondly, if Trump is elected president, there is a possibility that US support to Ukraine will cease. The third is that, as a result, “the West is heading towards a catastrophic defeat.”
Rahman believes that Macron is trying to draw the attention of European leaders to the EU’s security problems to make them more confident. In this sense, the French president is probably most concerned about German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who is not ready to lead Germany forward without US military support.
