The seemingly obvious event caused quite a stir among activists and supporters of the December 13 Coalition. It turned out that the former President of the Republic of Poland, Aleksander Kwaśniewski, openly supported a candidate of… the left in the local elections for the president of the capital.
The choice of a former president
Warsaw deserves an injection of new energy! On April 7 I will vote for Magdalena Biejat!!
– wrote Kwaśniewski, which – of course – was followed by a quick response from the person concerned.
It’s an honor to receive so much support! Mr. President, thank you!
– we read the contribution of the co-chair of the Lewica Razem party and vice-chairman of the Senate on her X platform profile.
““You got some Lego, girl.”
It turns out that not all supporters and activists of the December 13 Coalition liked Kwaśniewski’s decision. The following spoke: Zbigniew Hołdys himself
Mr. Aleksander Kwaśniewski decided to have fun with Warsaw, like Kaczyński with Poland. Girl, you have Lego blocks and you can build a house. And if you fail, nothing happens. Politics is just a game (though with human fate)
– He wrote.

This situation was noted, among others, by: political scientist Dr. Bartosz Rydliński recalls Kwaśniewski’s words: “I have always voted for the left, my heart is on the left and I will do it again with the conviction and certainty that it is a good posted vote.”
The left must declare itself as left
There were also voices – even from the left – supporting the decision of the former President of the Republic of Poland.
Working together on the left for a solidary, open Poland, where citizens have equal access to good quality public services is the dream of many of us, it is also a good prognosis for Warsaw, President Aleksander Kwaśniewski just knows
– wrote Paulina Piechna-Więckiewicz, Vice President of the New Left and Deputy Head of the Ministry of National Education.
And given the controversy caused by a person from the left supporting the candidate from the left, she added:
Ladies and gentlemen, I am surprised that the left-wing president supports a left-wing candidate for the office of mayor of Warsaw, I am surprised that the candidate supports a left-wing program, I am surprised that left-wing parties cooperate with each other, I am surprised that we upholding left-wing values, whether in government, parliament or local government, and my continued surprise this time that the left has to declare itself because it is left…
As you can see, the Civic Coalition, which needed the Third Way and the Left to take power from PiS, continues to treat its co-coalition partners as mere auxiliary forces that cannot build anything and play no role.
